Berkeley River Lodge sold to Saltwater Properties

The leasehold of an East Kimberley celebrity hideaway and remote luxury resort has been sold for less than $10 million.

The Berkeley River Lodge, about 150km from Wyndham in the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf and accessible by plane or boat, has been picked up by Saltwater Properties on a long-term leasehold for 20 years with a 20-year option.

Savills senior hotels executive Nic Simarro, who brokered the deal, said it attracted 36 inquiries from within Australia and overseas.

He said Berkeley was offered below its replacement cost and occupancy had grown exponentially since it opened in 2012.

Saltwater owns or manages 30 resorts in Australia including Broome's Kimberley Sands Resort.
